USOC and U.S. Sports Academy Announce IOC Sport and Singing Contest

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) in conjunction with the United States Sport Academy (USSA) will conduct the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sport and Singing Contest, a cultural component of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad this summer in Beijing, China. The U.S. portion of the competition is a national singing performance contest inviting artists to submit original songs with a theme related to the Olympic Games. Winners of the national phase will advance to the international competition, conducted by the IOC.

The IOC Sport and Singing Contest is open to performers (singers and instrumental) of all ages who are U.S. citizens. Individuals or groups up to 12 people (including singers and instrumental performers) may submit an original song for consideration in the contest. All songs must be original and free of third party rights. Winners of the international phase of competition will be invited to perform their winning songs at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in August.

As a part of the celebrations planned for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the IOC and its Commission for Culture and Olympic Education encourage all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to heighten the awareness of the link between sport and art through participation in competitions such as the IOC Sport and Singing Contest and the 2008 Sport Art Competition which was announced in November 2007.

Entries for the national phase of the competition are due by April 1, 2008. National winners will then be submitted for consideration in the international competition.
