United States Olympic Community Partner - San Francisco Bay Area

BASOC is proud to have been selected a Community Partner with the United States Olympic Committee since 2005. Working in conjunction with the USOC, BASOC strives to increase public awareness of Olympic and Paralympic sports within our community. Over the past years BASOC is pleased to have participated in the following events:

  • Olympic Day – held annually on June 23

The United States began celebrating Olympic Day in 2009 and BASOC and the USOC have proudly celebrated this day annually with terrific events in our community.

"The fundamental principles of the Olympic Movement are based on fair play and mutual respect. Olympic Day is an opportunity for the Olympians to share with people young and old their stories that confirm those principles. Every Olympian has experienced a singular moment where the principles of fair play and mutual respect have been central to their life as an athlete. Olympic Day is an opportunity to share the history of the Olympic Movement which is the celebration of human excellence. Young people, the next to be leaders in this world, can learn much from the stories of mutual respect and fair play that are central to the Olympic Movement."

- Anita DeFrantz, IOC Member and 1976 Olympian, Rowing
